Abstract

The invention of the internet and smartphones have revolutionized the ways people communicate at the personal and professional levels on daily basis. In the past, people were much concerned about their privacy but these days social media presence is important for individuals to stay in touch with their personal and professional contacts. Social networking sites empower their users with different privacy settings. People can keep the stuff they share limited to their friends, specific people, or they can also choose to display it publicly. The present study investigated the gender-wise difference in privacy management on a very famous social networking site, Facebook using a survey response of 400 respondents from all over Pakistan. A simple random sampling technique was employed to collect the data. The present study provides an in-depth analysis of various sections of privacy aspects on Facebook. Results revealed similarities and differences in privacy management practices by male and female users on Facebook.
